Hayley Stewart

Kia ora Whānau,

My name is Hayley Stewart and I am a relief teacher at Country Footsteps. I grew up in South Africa and had an OE in Jersey, Channel Islands before moving to New Zealand with my husband in 2008. We have 3 children Kimberly, Rachel and Adam. I have a Diploma in Travel and Tourism and am currently studying towards my Degree in Early Childhood Education.

All children have a culture, a family, strengths and weaknesses and teachers need to aknowledge all that makes a child who they are in order to give them a sense of belonging and to make their learning meaningful to them. Children learn by "doing" and watching. Therefore it is important to have teachers who are a good example to their tamariki.

I agree with what our Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki says. That children should grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.

One of my favourite verses in the Bible is Proverbs 22:6. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
